Call for Artists: Wall Street Steps Mural RFQ Now Open

The Asheville Downtown Association, Asheville Downtown Association Foundation, and Asheville Downtown Improvement District are inviting artists based in Western North Carolina to apply for a new public art opportunity in Downtown Asheville.

We are seeking qualifications for a temporary, site-responsive mural installation on the Wall Street Steps, a prominent pedestrian connection between Battery Park Avenue and Wall Street. The stairwell has previously featured public art and will once again serve as a canvas for creative expression, neighborhood storytelling, and Downtown activation.

About the Project

The Wall Street Steps Mural is envisioned as a temporary public art project that supports:

  • Downtown wayfinding and walkability

  • Local creative talent and paid opportunities for artists

  • Engagement with residents, workers, and visitors

  • Increased foot traffic along Wall Street

  • Celebration of the area’s history and character

The selected artist or artist team will work closely with project partners and community stakeholders through concept development, design, and installation.

  • Artist Budget: $6,000

  • Maintenance Reserve: $2,000 administered separately for conservation over three years

  • RFQ Deadline: Tuesday, March 10 at 5:00 PM
