Film Screening and Discussion

  • YMI Cultural Center 39 South Market Street Asheville, NC, 28801 (map)

We’re inspired by stories of transformational solidarity from around the world and throughout history, moments when people with significant differences come together to raise awareness of injustice and agitate for real change. People like the Palestinian-Israeli collective of four directors who made the Oscar-winning film No Other Land. It provides a harrowing account of the systematic onslaught of destruction experienced by Masafer Yatta, a group of Palestinian villages in the southern West Bank, at the hands of the Israeli military and settlers. Please join us for a screening and facilitated discussion of the film on Wednesday, May 28 from 6-9 pm at the YMI Cultural Center (39 S. Market St.) in downtown Asheville.

About the film: The Palestinian-Israeli collective of four directors is led by Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham. The collective committed itself to filming and protesting the demolitions of homes and schools and the resulting displacement of their inhabitants, which were carried out to make way for an Israeli military training ground.

The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion. We’ll process what we’ve seen and the feelings it brings up and learn more about how we can support the work of this collective and the people they are defending. Space is very limited, so please RSVP here. This event is free, but we are asking folks to contribute by donating to the film's creators to support them in launching a center for community advancement and support.
