Blue Ridge Roller Girls 10th Anniversary Season

Celebrating 10 years of roller derby in Asheville with special home-team bout

July 5, 2016 - On July 16, 2016, the Blue Ridge Rollergirls (BRRG) will be celebrating their 10th anniversary by bringing back its original home teams comprised of all local players, the Candy Apple Razorblades and Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am’s, at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville.

The double header evening will begin with BRRG French Broads facing off with another regional team, the Appalachian Rollergirls Boonshiners, followed by the special home team bout at 7 p.m. BRRG, founded in 2006, has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Currently ranked #45 (of 284 WFTDA teams in the world), the team will be heading to Division 2 playoffs this fall. The home teams are a way for BRRG to have some fun, bring back some of the old fashioned rivalry, costumes, and theatrics of the roller derby revival in the early 2000’s.

“Over the years, roller derby has become more technical. It’s become more athletic and mental, less about big hits and fishnet tights, says Princess Suck It Up Buttercup aka Nicole Orlovitz “The home teams will be honoring old-school derby, bringing back a more theatrical approach, and yes, maybe even some fishnet tights.”

Tickets are $13, available for purchase at the U.S. Cellular Center box office. Children 10-years-old and younger will receive free admission. $2 beer specials for guests 21+.
