Runners are accustomed to seeing water stations and maybe even a cheering fan or two along the route - but what about a honey bee on stilts or a magnificent fairy with sparkly wings? In Asheville, you learn to expect the unexpected, and that is certainly true for the LEAF Art Dash 5k, happening on July 30th in downtown Asheville.
A project of the nonprofit - LEAF - the race benefits the LEAF Schools & Streets program, which inspires students to find and develop their artistic voice. The program matches artists with youth in communities and schools for residencies, interactive performances and mentoring.
LEAF Founder and Executive Director Jennifer Pickering says the race encompasses what her organization aims to achieve.
“It is such a fun run. I love the spirit, the course, the mix of people of all ages and abilities, and the roaming LEAF performers along the course made us all laugh, smile, and elevated our creative spirit,” said Pickering.
To develop and manage the chip-timed 5k, LEAF partnered with Asheville-based SuperFly Fabulous Events, known for their outrageous, fun and top-notch festivals and events from North Carolina to Colorado.
“We’ve been fans of LEAF for several years, so to help them develop a SuperFly concept that honors what their organization aims to accomplish is thrilling for us,” said Director, Stephanie Carson.
The race starts at 9am on Saturday, July 30th and kicks off the weekend-long LEAF Downtown Event - now in it’s second year. Register TODAY! Check out this preview of the race, produced by Out of the Box Video.
