The Collider Kicks off Pollinator Week at Free Movie Night

Family-friendly event is open to the public; co-sponsored by Oskar Blues Brewery

(May 10, 2017 – Asheville, North Carolina): The Collider’s monthly movie night, presented by Oskar Blues Brewery and featuring films related to climate change and the environment, continues on Tuesday, May 30, at the nonprofit innovation center in downtown Asheville. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the program begins at 7 p.m. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Popcorn and a selection of Oskar Blues beers will be provided.

The DisneyNature documentary, “Wings of Life,” narrated by Meryl Streep, will be this month's featured film, kicking off the local celebration of June as National Pollinator Month.

“Wings of Life” asks viewers to imagine life as a pollinator, says Phyllis Stiles, of Bee City USA. “This breathtaking documentary represents decades of Louie Schwartzberg’s patient stop-motion photography. He manages to slow the bees, butterflies and hummingbirds down and speed the flowers’ opening and closing up to create something which is truly other-worldly.”

Beekeepers and representatives of Bee City USA Asheville will be on hand for a brief discussion prior to the movie. After the screening, Wildbud Natives, from Madison County, will offer for sale a variety of milkweed plants in pots and gallon-sized containers, which pollinators such as the Monarch butterfly need to survive.

Located at 1 Haywood St., on the top floor of the Wells Fargo building in downtown Asheville at Pritchard Park, The Collider is an innovation center focused on catalyzing climate solutions. It is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Access to the building for evening events is through the glass door facing Patton Ave., around the corner from the ATM machine.

The Collider and Bee City USA Asheville will present a second film related to pollinators at next month's movie night, June 27. For details on this and other Oscar Blues movie nights this year, check the event calendar at thecollider.org.
