Beat the Heat This Summer with Brews and Bears at the WNC Nature Center
[ASHEVILLE, NC] On Friday, June 14, from 5:30-8:00PM, the WNC Nature Center will host its second Brews and Bears event of the summer. The after-hours event allows attendees to enjoy the Nature Center in the evening, when animals are more active in their habitats.
This year, the Friends of the WNC Nature Center added a fourth Brews and Bears date and increased ticket capacity to 600 people for each event. The first event in May sold out, raising almost $10,000 to support the WNC Nature Center. “The Nature Center sits on 42 acres, so once you enter the front gates, you’ll have plenty of room to roam and explore the park,” says Kate Frost, Director of Development at Friends of the WNC Nature Center.
New in June, the event will feature beer from New Belgium and cider from Bold Rock. There will be several food options, including Cecilia’s Kitchen food truck, a hot dog cart, a pretzel cart, and ice cream from The Hop. Sandwiches will also be available for sale in the Gift Shop. To make sure all attendees have a chance to watch the Nature Center’s black bears interact with their enrichment activity, Uno and Ursa will be receiving special enrichments throughout the evening, along with an educational talk about the American Black Bear at 7PM.
Admission to Brews & Bears is $8 for Friends of the WNC Nature Center members and $10 for non-members. The event is intended primarily for adults, although youth are welcome to attend with the purchase of a ticket. Children 2 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance for all three remaining events (June 14, July 12, August 9) at https://www.wncnaturecentergifts.org/brews-and-bears. Proceeds from both ticket and beverage sales go to the Friends of the WNC Nature Center and help support various programs throughout the park, including animal enrichment and habitat renovations.
The Brews and Bears events are presented by Festiva and The Biltmore Company. Additional sponsors include Brickstreet Equity Management, Landmark Landscapes, White Oak Financial Management, and Hummingbird Insurance.
The Friends is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting the animals, programs, and facilities of the WNC Nature Center.
