Accomplishments of The Asheville Downtown Association
We've had 20 years to rack up a list of accomplishments.
The following, just to name a few...
In order to encourage people to come downtown we began sponsoring Downtown After Five
summer street party events, now in its 20 th year. This event has played a major part
in the downtown revitalization effort.
The Asheville Downtown Association organizes bi-annual downtown clean up days.
We work with local, regional and national media to promote downtown as a destination. Downtown Asheville is the third largest tourist attraction in the region after the Biltmore
Estate and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Downtown Association organizes a Speakers Series, bringing authorities on retailing,
downtown revitalization and historical architecture to Asheville. These presentations are
free to our members.
We host the annual State of Downtown Luncheon and an annual membership meeting.
The association tackles social issues, such as graffiti and panhandling.
Each winter we sponsor a downtown Holiday Window Display Competition.
The association brings the downtown community together to discuss issues and to network.
We assist local arts and civic organizations through donations of time and money:
Cinema in the Park, Asheville Community Theater, Lexington Arts and Fun Festival,
to name a few.
The Asheville Downtown Association supports the Pack Square Conservancy efforts and
has made financial contributions to the project.
Members of the Association participate in and sponsor roundtable discussions with various opinion leaders, locally and throughout the state, on topics of interest.
